How I Prioritize Time With the Lord While Raising Littles (Two Under 2)

Walking with the Lord is an essential piece to making motherhood. Bible reading, prayer journaling, and worship are key components to it. Some days it looks glamorous–with aesthetic colored highlighters and sticky notes alongside my Bible, while drinking a cup of coffee before my girls wake up. Other days it’s opening the ‘Verse of the Day’ on the YouVersion Bible app while playing worship music with my daughters. And sometimes it looks like something in between that! Consistency is what’s key.

1. Staying consistent by reading your bible and walking with the Lord each day should be a vital aspect to creating a Christ-centered home. The Lord wants to have an intimate relationship with you. When you are reading the Word every day, then you are being consistent and growing in that relationship with Him. Reading the Bible may be one verse, one chapter, or multiple! It varies day to day.

2. Praying throughout the day. I make sure that happens in the morning when I rise, throughout the day, and in the evening before bed. When I pray throughout the day it’s over my meals, in times of rejoicing while listening to worship music, or it could also happen in times of frustration when I call out to the Lord to bring me peace and patience. I’m always working on taking the time to pray more throughout the day because prayer is so, so valuable.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” –1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV

3. Listening to Christian-based podcasts or sermons. About three to five times a week I’m listening to a podcast or sermon that is filling my cup with wisdom and knowledge through a God-fearing lens. What you listen to and watch matters.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
–Philippians 4:8 NKJV

I make sure that the podcasts I choose bring me clarity, not confusion.

“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” –1 Corinthians 14:33

Some of the podcasts I listen to on a weekly basis are Courageous Parenting, Now That We’re a Family, The Alisa Childers Podcast, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be An Atheist with Frank Turek, and Mama Bear Apologetics. Each of these podcasts are rooted in Christ; however, it’s important to always go back to the number one source of true Godly wisdom which is from the Bible.

4. The last way I make sure I’m prioritizing time with the Lord is including my children into it! Worship music and praise is the easiest way to do this. Typically, after I’ve nursed Valerie and eaten breakfast with Eva is when we put on worship music. Your children are sponges, mama! What they see you do is what they will do. Put your hands in the air and sing the worship songs. Do it enough times and your little toddler will be praising God just like you are. And that, my friends, has been one of the best things to witness in my making motherhood journey.

Here are the key takeaways, mamas. Stay consistent with reading your bible. Pray throughout the day. Listen to worship songs and podcasts. Include your children into the process. May Our Heavenly Father bless you in some way today! Keep on making motherhood a joyful, wholesome, and honest thing rooted in your faith in Jesus Christ.
