Two Under 2: Typical Daily Schedule

I’m currently in the thick of it as a stay at home mama raising my girls–one just turned four months and the other one is nineteen months as I write this. Thus, a blog post sharing a typical daily schedule with two under two is here! I feel like we’re in a steady routine these days, so read along with me as I give an in-depth explanation about what our day to day looks like–or scroll down to the end to see a shortened version of this schedule I created!

*Please note that time stamps are an approximate and this schedule is followed loosely based on what each of my children need. Things do vary some days, but it typically follows this pattern–give or take thirty minutes here or there.

Valerie is our four month old and Eva is our nineteen month old when I’ve written this schedule.

7:00/7:15am Valerie wakes up for the day and I nurse her. About three mornings of the week I get a morning workout in with just Valerie and I, before Eva wakes up. She goes in the bouncer while I get ready for my workout, which includes changing and drinking BeachBody Energize mixed with water. I also like to read a chapter in my bible if the timing works out. I start my at home workout that usually lasts about thirty minutes. You can read more about the workouts I’ve done postpartum here.

7:45/8:00am Try and take a 1-minute shower to rinse off my sweat and change into clean clothes. I get Valerie on the floor for some tummy time while we wait just a little bit longer for Eva to wake up. If I didn’t get my bible reading in before my workout, then sometimes I do it now.

8:15/8:30am I get Eva up for the day if she hasn’t already woken up herself. I get her changed out of her pj’s and into her clothes for the day, and we also brush her teeth.

8:35am Eva comes out to play with Valerie and we all hangout for a little longer before Valerie goes down for her first nap and Eva and I eat breakfast. Sometimes I sit with the girls or sometimes I start making breakfast–depending on how fussy Valerie is getting.

8:45am Valerie goes down for her first nap in her crib. I swaddle and rock her to sleep which takes about two to five minutes for us (for the first nap).

9:00am I’ve started cooking breakfast with Eva. She’s standing in her toddler kitchen helping stand (linked here). The typical breakfast for us includes organic chicken sausages, three for me and three for her, two eggs over hard with a slice of sourdough avocado toast for me, and then one homemade pancake warmed up for her (I batch cook and freeze them) and some fruit.

9:30am Finish breakfast and quick clean up. Valerie also wakes up from her nap at this time. Eva goes in the living room to play while I nurse Valerie. I’ll put on a Christian music playlist to praise God while we continue getting our day started.

9:40-11:40am This part of our morning varies day to day. It usually involves me cleaning up some part of the house or doing a load of laundry while the girls play alongside me. Sometimes I take an hour to be fully present with both the girls and we listen to worship music and do bible reading, then play with toys, do tummy-time for Valerie, or bake something in the kitchen (it’s winter, so we’re not outside as much). Some mornings, we head to the store to run an errand during this time or have a get together with another mom friend–but typically, we’re at home doing a combination of cleaning up things and playing.

11am Valerie goes down for her second nap in our morning block

11:45/11:55am I put together a snack plate or small lunch for Eva and she eats at this time. Valerie wakes up from her nap and I nurse her while Eva is eating lunch.

12:15pm A little more play time for Eva before she goes down for her nap. All three of us are hanging out and playing

12:45/1pm-3:30pm Eva takes her nap

1:30/1:45pm Valerie goes down for her third nap of the day. She’ll wake up after about thirty or forty minutes and I get her out of the crib and nurse her around 2:15pm. This will usually make her fall back to sleep, so she takes one longer nap in the afternoon. She will sleep til about 3pm. During this time when both girls are asleep, I will do some of the following things: prep dinner, bake something, computer work, house chores, read a book, or watch a movie if I’m feeling tired

3pm Valerie wake ups and I play with her

3:15/3:30pm I wake Eva up from her nap and we get her a snack

3:30-4:45pm I spend a little more time with the girls before I start doing something in the kitchen or another small house chore.

4:45pm Feed Valerie and put her down for her fourth and final nap of the day. Sometimes this nap is a little harder for Valerie to go down, and Eva is high energy following me into the bedroom while I try and get her to sleep. To help combat the fussiness of Valerie and playfulness of Eva, I’ll turn on a show or music in the living room to keep her occupied out there until I can Valerie settled down and asleep.

5pm Spend one-on-one time with Eva. I’ve done this earlier in the day during some of Valerie’s naps, but I like to make sure during this last part of the day that I give Eva more alone time with just her and I. We’ll go in the play room and play on the slide, read books, pretend play with her Little People and blocks, or do some arts and craft activity. Sometimes Gennadiy, my husband, (read Our Story here) is home and hanging out with us during this time, or towards the latter half of it.

5:30pm Valerie wakes up from her last nap and I start cooking dinner. Gennadiy is usually home and with us by now. He hangs out and plays with the girls while I start cooking dinner.

6:30/6:45pm Gennadiy, Eva, and I are eating dinner. Valerie hangs out in her bouncer with us.

7pm Quick clean up from dinner and family time

7:30pm I get Valerie ready for bed, which includes changing her diaper, putting on her pjs and sleep sack, and then nursing her to sleep. Gennadiy and Eva are playing and/or cleaning up

7:50pm I come back to hangout with them before Eva gets ready to go to sleep

8:15/8:30pm Eva gets ready for bed, which includes changing her diaper, putting on her pjs and sleep sack, giving her some water, and reading her a book (some nights we read her a book before we get her ready for bed).

8:30pm Gennadiy puts Eva down to sleep. I clean up the living room and finish putting up food/dishes away in the kitchen.

8:45/9pm Husband and wife hangout time!

9:45/10pm Valerie gets a dream feed

10:30pm Lights out!

I hope this schedule helped any other two under two mamas (or soon to be)! I always wanted to find something like this before Valerie was born to mentally prepare what things would look like when raising little babies so close together in age.

Below is the shortened version of this schedule. Please remember, this is not a hard schedule, and it does vary some days; however, it typically looks like this most days (for right now lol). Every mama knows that this will all soon change once Valerie drops a nap and starts eating solids! But for now, this is our day to day. Thanks again, mamas. Be blessed!
