It’s March. Can you believe it? Warmer weather is on the horizon for us North Carolinians. We’ve had some warm weather here and there, but soon it will be here to stay. Spring is such a joyful time for me. It’s the start of something new, something fresh. All the drab, leafless trees will soon be flourishing with new flowers and life as spring approaches in a couple of short weeks. We will also have longer days again, with setting our clocks forward this weekend. Something about those sunnier, longer lasting days fill my cup. I think it has to do with taking family walks in the evenings, admiring how God painted the sunset for that particular day, and hearing the laughter and youthful play of the neighborhood kids outside. Everything is more lively when the weather gets warmer.
We will also have our spring chickens living in their coop by the end of this month. My husband is building our chicken coop and run for the birds to have a safe place to live. Our yard isn’t fenced in, so we need to have ample area for them to run around and play in. I still plan on letting them free range in the backyard when I can keep an eye on them. Like when we’re outside working in the garden–because that will be something else to add to our list of warmer weather activities, too! Like I said, everything gets more lively. What’s something on your list of spring and summer activities that keeps you busy and outside?
I would love to start the 1,000 hours outside challenge with my kids this year now that they will be two and one years old by the time August rolls around. How does time go so fast? I must remind myself of what James says, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). We are here on earth for such a short time, and we must remember that. Ecclesiastes is a book in the bible that teaches us more about our time and purpose here on earth. One verse I’ll add from that is this: “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind” (Ecclesiastes 1:14).
As I close out this post, I want to add that I’ve been off my regular posting schedule. It’s been a little more challenging to find the time in the day to write a post. Or, sometimes, I’ll sit with a new document open and start writing and then get writer’s block. My website has also been having major lag issue which has been making posting take longer than normal. But, these are all excuses! If I want to get it done, I need to commit to it and make it happen. Comment below if there’s anything you want to hear about from me!
