Motherhood is Busy

I’m in the stage of motherhood where I feel like there’s not enough time in the day. I currently have a seven month old and a toddler who will be two in May. We are in a busy and blessed season, but with that being said–I’m running out of hours in the day to accomplish the tasks I want to do. Is it poor planning on my part? Or a genuine lack of time throughout the day? I’m leaning more towards the latter as I type this, but let’s be honest: sometimes it can be a little bit of both.

I think as my children get older it will get easier (to a certain degree). Seasoned mamas, is that true? Because here’s my logic: I am constantly cleaning up after my little ones! Whether it’s their food, their diapers, or their toys–it takes time to care for your children. Hear me out, this isn’t a complaint. I have embraced this season I’m in. However, it’s a season where time is of the essence. It ‘pays’ to be efficient with my use of time. Some days I’m bartering with myself; do I stay up and write a blog post? Or do I go to sleep at a normal time? Do I clean up the kitchen right after cooking a meal? Or do I sit with the girls and spend quality time with them? There’s always something I’m having to go back and forth on. If I spend time with my girls, then cleaning up the kitchen is a task that will still have to get done later…It’s a give and take season of trying to manage it all. Am I resonating with any mamas of littles?

I share this to say that motherhood is busy. Motherhood is nonstop. Motherhood is a journey. There’s going to be an ebb and flow of how our routines go–depending on the season of life our children are in, if we are pregnant and adding another child to the family, or if there are other big life events happening in your family. I think the best thing we can do in this journey of motherhood is embrace where we are at. Kind of like I stated earlier. Embrace the postpartum season if that’s where you are right now. Embrace the two under 2 season. Embrace the pregnant season before your family grows one more. Embrace wherever you are in your journey of motherhood. How does that one saying go… the days are long but the years are short. That’s definitely a good perspective shift if you’ve never heard of that.

So mama, if it takes you longer to load your kids in and out of the car than it does to pick up the three items you need at the grocery store–I’m with you. If you sacrifice the last part of your lunch because your toddler comes rushing over saying they’re finally hungry–I’m with you. If you change more diapers in a day than you do going to the bathroom yourself–I’m with you. If you can’t seem to find the hours in the day to get everything done–I’m with you. Let’s move forward with grace and love towards ourselves this week, mamas. After all, it’s only for a season.
