Hey mamas, sisters, and friends! Do you know the truth of God—the absolute, unwavering, objective truth of our Lord and Savior? Do you know what I’m talking about? The hope, grace, love, and fear of God that every human has written on their hearts? (Romans 1:20) Well, let’s get into it.
Seeking God’s truth is found in His word–that means the bible. There are so many versions of the bible out there today, so be sure to get one that hasn’t been watered down to only a summary of the text. God’s word is living and alive! (Hebrews 4:12) Let’s be sure to read His truth in fullness. Did you know that all scripture is given by God? That you can use His word for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction? It says so in 2 Timothy 3:16–check it out!
Like I just mentioned above, God’s word is used for teaching the beliefs of Christianity and to also rebuke the wrong things (that’s what reproof means). The bible in the hands of a Christian with CORRECT theology is a power-tool, given to us by God Himself through scribes who recorded all this down (the bible also tells us those scribes in many parts of the OT). Well, how come there are so many versions in today’s time? Friend, look at the advancements in our world over the last 200 years compared to the last 2,000 years–that’s why. Now don’t get hung up on the number of bible versions there are–ESV, NIV, NKJV, ASV, etc –because no matter what version you’re reading…the MESSAGE is still the same every time. The message of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Oh thank you, God! John 3:16
I capitalized correct theology because that is a key component to seeking God’s truth. Bad theology hurts people, so this post is to encourage you to make sure you are seeking the God of the bible in truth. The objective and absolute truth it teaches us. If you’re a Christian and you get your daily dose of Jesus through “Christian” Instagram accounts, YouTube shorts, and a self-help book labelled as “Christian”…then let me tell you something, sis: read your bible. Sure, those accounts can be helpful and the people behind them may have good meaning; however, they are not the word of God. To know God is to know His word.
The Law of Christ in Mark 12:30-31 says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
You can’t love your neighbor if you’re not first loving God how He teaches us to! We are commanded to love God with not only our heart, but also our minds. That means we can’t let our feelings (or our heart) lead the way in seeking God. We need to be using our minds–and that means submitting to the Word of God no matter how your heart feels about the issue. Isn’t it so interesting how the Lord uses this small detail to drastically change the outcome of seeking Him? If we were to only rely on our hearts, then we would be in a bad way. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” That is God’s truth! If you still believe that you need to “follow your heart” like many bumper stickers, t-shirts, and decor sayings say after reading that scripture, then friend, you are probably going to end up in a bad way. In reality, you are suppressing the truth of God. Read Romans 1:18-32 to see the truth of what happens to those who don’t live by the word of God. If you don’t get to that, I’ll leave you with some points that stood out to me: “although they knew God, they did not glorify Him…became futile in their thoughts, foolish hearts were darkened, God gave them up to uncleanness, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie.” That’s just a snippet. There’s so much more to read from that that will make you tremble.
BUT, GOD! If you are not fully seeking God in truth as we are commanded to do, then grace be to our Savior that He opened up this post to you. That is a grace from God! Maybe the Lord is trying to tell you something from this. Read your bible, friend. His truth is there! Mighty and magnificent things happen when you open His word. Hearts are changed, ears are opened, and souls are saved!
Can I give you a challenge? Just start by reading one chapter from the book of Proverbs each day. There’s 31 chapters in that book, so it’s perfect for one chapter a day for a month. Or, if you want to read one of the gospels then I’d recommend starting with John. Ask that God would open up to you before you start reading His word. Plan to read a chapter a day for one month. What do you have to lose? (rhetorical question, but the answer is actually your soul)
To follow God is to fear Him. Proverbs 9:10 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Seek the wisdom of the Lord that is found in His word–not the fleeting wisdom of this world. Be blessed mamas, sisters, and friends! Let me know if you do the challenge.
