Do You Have A Growth Mindset?

A growth mindset means that you are focused on growing and bettering yourself. You are open to feedback and appreciate being corrected. You accept your faults and grow from them. You don’t get stuck on thinking you can’t accomplish something. You don’t allow yourself to live just a mediocre life, settling on how things are because that’s ‘just the way it is.’ Instead, you set goals. You are always learning. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You want to grow as a person.

Does this sound far-fetched to you, or something you don’t associate yourself with? Or do these examples fuel your mind and make you feel empowered? If you agree with the above statements in the first paragraph, then you are likely someone who has a growth mindset. On the other hand, if you struggle with some of those things or find yourself feeling stuck with life–then maybe you have more of a fixed mindset. The good news, however, is that YOU have the ability to change your thoughts to have a growth mindset. The second word in that term is mindset: your thoughts, your feelings, your attitude, your beliefs. You are in control of how you respond and react to life. Choose to have a mindset that will establish growth! Not one that is fixed on the way things are. When you live your life limited to what you can accomplish, then Satan wins. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10). Steals your thoughts. Kills your dreams. Destroys your hopes–for one example that relates to this.

Walk with the Lord and He will give you wisdom. Proverbs 9:10 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” If you seek after wisdom, she will be given to you. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” It is better to love knowledge than to not. Proverbs 12:1 says, “Whoever loves instruction, loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” Even the bible is clear about a growth vs. fixed mindset in that Proverbs verse.

Take this new year to do some thinking and self-reflecting on where you stand with your mindset. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Be blessed, mamas, sisters, and friends!
