We Had Another Baby!!

Hey mamas, sisters, and friends! I know it’s been a while since my last post, but I’ve been wanting to keep this a secret until our sweet child was in our arms. If you’ve been with me for a while, then you know the history with my miscarriages. If not, I reference them down below as I get into the post, but like the title says–we had another baby!! Thank you, Jesus!

For this blog, I wrote each of these entries on the date listed starting two days past my due date. We went through three losses before getting to where we are now, and I wanted to share my  real + raw feelings at the end of the pregnancy in the waiting before we met our child. I went just a day shy of two weeks overdue, so you can expect my emotions were on high. I should also mention our plan for this birth was to have another homebirth, so I had been seeing a midwife who was going to assist us with that. It’s quite wild to look back on and read this now that our baby is born. I wanted to share this post to my readers with one goal in mind: to give all the glory to the Lord Almighty, my Savior! It is truly His faithfulness that has brought my family and I to where we are today. He is our Creator and sustainer of all things. Everything happens according to His will. I wouldn’t take back the losses that I experienced along the way because it sanctified me and shaped me according to His will–not mine. Praise be to the Lord. Now here we go…

Monday, August 3rd: I write this as the beginning of my birth story with our fourth child–our third living child. I’m not quite yet in labor (that I’m aware of), but I am two days past my “guess date”. I really thought our baby would be here by now. My first child was born two days after her due date and my second was born a day after her due date. It’s 7:39pm and I sit here in bed sharing these thoughts of anticipation and eagerness.

I was able to shower and go to the prayer closet before getting on my laptop. Seeking the Lord in everything has been vital to the sustenance of this pregnancy. If you know our story, then you’re aware of our third child (4th pregnancy) who was born at twenty weeks gestation last year July 2025. I believe we lost her around sixteen to seventeen weeks, but I delivered her around the twenty week mark just over a year ago. You can read more about that Unexpected Loss here. And the year before that around the same time, I was in surgery to remove a blighted ovum (July 2024) I experienced with our third pregnancy after our second child. So now, we are in the third year of something happening with pregnancy/a child around the same time. Soon to be here…our long awaited “rainbow” baby that many people refer to after experiencing losses.

Lord, I am ready. Deliver us our rainbow here soon. As the mother of the child who’s been carrying him or her for the last nine months…(oh yeah, did I mention this is a surprise gender!)…I am elated to bring this baby into the world and out from my womb. I know Your timing is perfect. Everything we’ve gone through has led to this moment–the losses, the wins, the highs, and the lows. Everything is in Your timing. Help me to rest in that and continue to surrender to You as I wait for this child’s arrival.

Wednesday, August 5th: I felt pretty discouraged this evening. When is baby going to come? This waiting seems like forever. Intrusive thoughts coming in that are only making things worse. I needed to get to the prayer closet. I prayed and surrendered my negative thoughts and lack of trust to the Lord. His Word filled me up and gave me peace. Since it was shortly after our girls had gone to bed, I decided to go on a walk.

When I got outside, I saw one of my neighbors out walking. We briefly chatted and I got to check in with her about the baby still not being here. Seeing her made me think to text my other neighbor, Morgan, to catch up with her also. I thought maybe she would like to join me on the walk since we do that from time to time…but I decided not to text her. By the time I got to the end of the street and turned around, it had been about five minutes. I look up and see Morgan walking back down to her house! I couldn’t believe it!–so I invited her to walk with me after all. I shared some of my discouragement and how grateful I was to find her outside and take the time to spend walking together. Thank you Lord for hearing my prayers and sending a sister in Christ to lift me up.

Sunday, August 9th: Still pregnant. We went to church, out to lunch, ran a few errands, and took the girls to a splash pad. I’m still having waves of discouragement come through my mind. After the loss of Ruth, my prayer is just to bring this child I’m carrying into the world alive. My husband and I prayed tonight and that was my prayer and supplication to the Lord. God–please, I’m begging, let us bring this baby here soon. We are ready, eager, and anxiously waiting for God to bring us through the delivery. My midwife also wants me to get an ultrasound and see her for a prenatal this week if baby doesn’t come. Just the idea of there being some “concern” has made me on edge. I need to remind myself, there is nothing wrong!! People go over their due date all the time. My close friend had her baby right at 42 weeks. My sister in law had her baby 10 days past the due date.

Wednesday, August 12th: We had an ultrasound yesterday for baby and were given some surprising news. My prayer the night before and leading up to the ultrasound was that God would make it clear for us if we are meant to have the homebirth and baby would come soon and on their own, whatever Your will is for the delivery of this child, please give us clear understanding. We get the ultrasound and she immediately relays to us that baby is in the breech position. Wow. I was shocked to hear that because my midwife has told me over the last month and a half that baby’s head was down and settled into place. How could this be? My mind reminds me of the scripture: “My ways are not your ways” Isaiah 55:8-9

Everything else with our baby was perfectly good and healthy, praise the Lord. I thank God we had that appointment to find this out, especially in regards to our homebirth and what to do! On the drive home, my husband and I discussed the information. C-section seemed like the only answer with the one-sided information we were given; however, once my midwife came over for our appointment shortly after we got home she also threw us a curveball: “this changes nothing for the other midwife and I. We can carry on with a homebirth if that is what you guys decide” Wow. How could this be? It seemed so clear after we left the ultrasound…

She continued talking, giving clarifying information and said that our baby is in the Frank breech position–ideally the best breech position and that baby would come out butt first. This was good news! The homebirth, vaginal delivery was still possible! Yet, I was fearful for something to happen… Is this what we should do? After the loss of Ruth, we didn’t want to jeopardize anything with this child. Lots to think about and continue to pray about.

My midwife was able to do a cervical check, and I was 2cm dilated. My body hasn’t been showing much labor signs, and maybe that’s because God was waiting on this ultrasound information to be given to us (since the midwives and myself thought baby was head down). My midwife left me with a “Start it Up” tincture that can help get labor going. I plan to take that throughout today and see what happens. We will continue to take things day by day as the week goes on. I’m 41 weeks and 4 days. We also chatted about how the conception date of baby could also be off…maybe I’m only 40 weeks and 4 days and baby is coming at the perfect time anyways. Homebirth is still our ideal as opposed to the surgery–especially since we have midwives who are comfortable, trained, and confident in delivering our child this way. But God is in control and He will continue to direct our steps as we patiently wait for this child…whatever happens for the birth of this baby, we are praying that there are no complications for either me or baby. Let your will be done, Father.

Friday, August 14th: The night before today, we planned to head to the hospital in the morning. The tincture didn’t work for me, and I was still barely having any contractions even with all the walking I was doing. I was a day shy of 42 weeks today, with no real signs of labor happening. My body was hardly having any contractions besides Braxton Hicks when I would take walks. How much longer could we wait it out for spontaneous labor… So after more prayer and all things considered, we took the hospital route and arrived Friday morning to have the cesarean.

They sent us right back to triage to get things started: fetal monitoring, blood work, ultrasound, and a chat with the OB who would be doing the procedure. When the ultrasound confirmed that baby was still breech, we knew we made the right choice. Along with that, the midwife doing the ultrasound said that because of his position and where we baby was, there was no sign that they would have dropped further to put pressure on my cervix and start contractions. Clearly, we had made the right choice coming in! I could have waited another week and baby would still be chilling in my womb with no labor signs! This was God’s plan for his birth and I am at peace with it. Thank you, Lord! At 9:50AM I was in the operating room getting the spinal block and other preparations before my husband was allowed in. Ten minutes later, Gennadiy joined me by my side and at 10:07AM our SON, Uriah Yevsin, was born–at 9lbs even!

Mamas, sisters, and friends, it’s been two weeks since the birth of our son. I type this closing paragraph as I sit in bed with my sweet son lying cozied up next to me. If you would have told me a month ago that I would be getting a C-section with this baby, I’d probably laugh and say “you’re kidding, right?” I had no idea this was the plan that God had for the delivery of our baby, but I believe it happened for all the right reasons–some reasons I won’t know, but to my own understanding I believe that the Lord was continuing to sanctify me (as He always does). He showed me that birth is still beautiful regardless of the delivery process. I do hope to have a VBAC, Lord willing, if we are given more children–but my heart has been softened through the hospital delivery via cesarean. Wherever you are in your journey with having children, just know, that EVERYTHING is truly in God’s timing. “There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the Lord directs His steps” –Proverbs 16:9 Take your desires, worries, and prayers to the Lord today, my friends. Talk to you in the next one!

Thank you sharing this Vanessa! I could feel your anxiety building as your journal entries continued past your due date, but you kept trusting in the Lord. Aren’t the things that don’t go “our way” the very things God sanctifies us with? He continually reminds us that He’s the one in control, not us. Praising God for this precious blessing🩵
